How to use Creative Visualization technique to improve your Product Owner’s skills

This technique can be used to figure out the possible results and goals in your product

“Ordinary people believe only in the possible. Extraordinary people visualize not what is possible or probable, but rather what is impossible. And by visualizing the impossible, they begin to see it as possible.”
― Cherie Carter-Scott

Creative Visualization is the technique of producing positive results in the real-world by using your imagination to create mental images of behavior and achievements in your life.

As a Product Owner, you can use this technique to help you figure out the results and goals intended to achieve through your Product.

Let me ask you something: Have you visualized your Product as a complete and ready solution yet?

I’m not only arguing about increasing sales or making it more valuable which is also relevant, but how your Product will impact the users’ life, how it can bring about a real benefit to them.

Can I suggest an exercise? Close your eyes. Get yourself in a comfortable position and take a deep breath for a while. Compose and pull yourself together. Now, in your imagination, shift yourself for that moment when your final users are going to use your Product.

Don’t imagine this lightly. Think about what it will look and feel like when users reach it. Consider details and specific conditions that you desire to be real when it occurs. For instance:

They are saying things like: “Oh! How easy” and “Finally! it will help me so much!” Imagine the expression on their faces, the smile, the positive surprise. The environment around it. Try to imagine every condition regarding this circumstance that you had never thought before.

Maybe you can view it as a “silly” practice. But trust me. Product Owners are not just technical specialists building solutions to technical difficulties. Product Owners are human beings trying to solve issues and challenges to other human beings. This must be a personal, emotional, and maybe, life-changing experience for both of you!
